The Black Dagger Brotherhood continues to train the best of the best to join them in the deadly battle against the Lessening Society. Among the new recruits, Axe proves to be a cunning and vicious fighter—and also a loner isolated because of personal tragedy. When an aristocratic female needs a bodyguard, Axe takes the job, though he’s unprepared for the animal attraction that flares between him and the one he is sworn to protect.
For Elise, who lost her first cousin to a grisly murder, Axe’s dangerous appeal is enticing—and possibly a distraction from her grief. But as they delve deeper into her cousin’s death, and their physical connection grows into so much more, Axe fears that the secrets he keeps and his tortured conscience will tear them apart.
Rhage, the Brother with the biggest heart, knows all about self-punishing, and he wants to help Axe reach his full potential. But when an unexpected arrival threatens Rhage and Mary’s new family, he finds himself back in the trenches again, fighting against a destiny that will destroy all he holds most dear.
As Axe’s past becomes known, and fate seems to be turning against Rhage, both males must reach deep—and pray that love, rather than anger, will be their lantern in the darkness.
5 Black Dagger Loving Stars!!
Honestly, I cannot get enough of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, so I am beyond ecstatic for the Black Dagger Legacy series, it feeds my addiction for these vampires!! So it took me awhile to do this review and I’ve decided to break it down into three mini reviews.
Axe & Elise:
Axe is a commoner, a guy who just wants to survive and make it through the Brotherhood trainee program. He’s had a hard knock’s life, his mother abandoned him and his father for a better life when he was a young boy. His father basically spent the rest of his life waiting for her to come back and forgetting that he has a son, a son who later rebelled using drugs and sex as an outlet.
Axe turned his life around when his father was killed in the raids, he applied for the trainee program to do something good with his life and at the same time avenge his father’s death. There is more to his back story which will break your heart but you’ll need to read all about that.
Elise is an aristocratic, her rebellious cousin’s death, which happened in Blood Kiss, has affected her and her family to the point that she is being smothered and sheltered by her overprotective father. Her father refuses to allow her independence, and attempts to smother her under tradition, but Elise wants to finish her PhD in Psychology so she can become a therapist to her race just like the humans have. To achieve her goal, she agrees to a compromise, she will accept a bodyguard. When Axe previously met Elise, he was instantly attracted to her, he wants her……badly!! However, he feels that she is way out of his league. Axe is dark and dangerous, nothing Elise is used to, yet she can’t resist him.
Axe and Elise have a bumpy road to their HEA and for the most part, I enjoyed their storyline, but both have issues to work through, including trust one another.
Rhage, Mary and Bitty:
Rhage, Mary and Bitty’s storyline picks up right where it left off in The Beast. Rhage and Mary have started the adoption process for Bitty who they both love and adore (along with the rest of the brotherhood household). They already consider her their daughter and she considers them Mom and Dad. But, deep down both Rhage and Mary fear that Bitty’s missing uncle will turn up and destroy their dreams of being a family. Their fear becomes a reality when Ruhn shows up to claim Bitty. What an emotional rollercoaster!!! Rhage…..oh lord he broke my heart, while Mary tried to remain strong for him and Bitty all the while dying inside. Bitty is such a loving, sweet, and wise young girl. I loved their storyline and the outcome.
Lassiter, Lassiter, Lassiter……our favorite naughty fallen angel. Lassiter and Bitty have developed a very special and close bond, they have tons of fun together that will make you smile. So it’s only natural that he is front and center throughout the Rhage, Mary, and Bitty storyline offering his unique brand of support to both Rhage and Mary. We see the Lassiter we all know and love…snarky, crude, and outrageous at times. Yet we also see a more serious and tender side to him, you’ll definitely enjoy his humor in this one.
