When charm and persuasion fail...only seduction remains...
On the night of her betrothal, Lydia Trent receives just a taste of what ecstasy will be at the hands of her fiance ...and then he leaves her wanting. After waiting six years, and tired of being neglected by her exceedingly reluctant husband-to-be, Lydia decides to break it off.
When Marcus, Lord Russell, receives Lydia's letter requesting a release from their contract, he is stunned by her audacity. Confident he'll have her eating out of his hand with his usual wit and charm, he's determined to repair the damage. However, the headstrong woman she's blossomed into is equally determined to thwart his every effort to win her back.
Marcus discovers, in spite of her conviction to end the union, Lydia is more responsive to his touch than he ever imagined. He just needs to get her alone to unleash the promised passion he sees within his wanton virgin. Marcus will use any tool in his arsenal to exploit her weakness-his kisses, his hands, his mouth...her own body. In short, he'll just have to ruin her!
4.5 Stars! WOW! What an unexpected surprise A Breach of Promise turned out to be!
I was captivated, riveted, and charmed by this superbly written short story. I’m in awe of Ms. Vane’s ability to write a novella that is not only historically detailed, engaging, and cleverly contrived, but simultaneously sweeps the reader into a world full of richly developed characters, and terrific, witty dialogue.
The cast of characters in this short story were simply amazing for a novella. I can honestly say, I don’t think I’ve read a more charming, delightful, and so full of himself hero! Marcus was such a weasel. I couldn’t help but love the conceited rake. I absolutely adored the heroine in this book. Unlike the typical heroine in romance novels, Lydia had incredible strength of character. I love when an author gives me a heroine I can truly admire. She was such a delight to read.
The chemistry between the hero and heroine was provocative and tangible, making for some steamy, sexy, and very sensual love scenes.
Victoria Vane is one fantastic writer and A Breach of Promise is one of the best historical erotic romances I’ve read to date. I highly recommend this wonderful story.
4.5 Stars! A sexy, fun, delightful treat!
So much story packed into this witty, entertaining, captivating novella.
Lydia starts out as this love-struck teenager with stars in her eyes and giddy with glee over her betrothal to Marcus. Well, the stars dim quickly when he leaves her hanging for 6 years and fails to return from his job with the Foreign Ministry. She doesn’t buy into his lame excuses for his lengthy absence and is ready to end her betrothal to him and move on with her life. I loved Lydia, she blooms from a wallflower into a smart, witty, feisty young woman.
Marcus doesn’t want to end the betrothal, not because he wants to be married but because it serves a purpose for him. However, when he lays his eyes on Lydia for the first time in so many years, gone is the besotted coy teenager and in her place, a gorgeous confident woman who speaks her mind and lets Marcus know just how she feels about him and his excuses. Let the smack-down begin!
Oh, Marcus, what an inflated ego, but he’s adorable and turns out to be an honorable man. I liked these characters so much that I wish their book had been longer but even for the short length it’s still a great read! It’s filled with amusing banter, charming characters, sizzling chemistry, and a satisfying ending. A complete romance tale in a compact read by a very talented author!
