Determined to protect her life and heal her broken heart, equine vet, Ariel Armstrong, seeks a refuge from her violent ex-boyfriend. Her job working with prized race horses enables her to hide in plain sight and care for her brother, an injured Marine. After losing her father to war and witnessing her brother’s daily battle to overcome his injuries, she’s sworn off military men forever.

Gavin Cross, Navy SEAL, and the son of Ariel’s new boss has one mission in life—to serve his country. After showing signs of PTSD, he’s sent home but vows to get back in the action ASAP. The last problem he needs is an emotional entanglement but the beautiful vet’s love tempts him in an undeniable way and has him questioning his need to return to duty. Will Gavin choose a future with Ariel or protection of America from terrorism?

Her gaze flicked to an imposing male figure planted directly in her line of vision, his stance wide, wearing leather combat boots seemingly bolted to the earth. Whoever the man was, he surveyed every detail of his environment with the presence of someone whose self-confidence couldn’t easily be shaken. He carried himself like he belonged here. Hell, like he owned the place. The startling combination of blue eyes, the color of glacier water, against an olive complexion and full black beard created a commanding presence.  Glued like a sentry next to the man, Wager, the farm’s Border collie exuded absolute devotion with his tongue lolling out and head tilted up to the hand stroking him.

Jesus, who IS that dude? He can’t be a new buyer interested in our foals the way Wager is fawning all over him but he’s someone important, no doubt. Focus Ariel, you’re here to work, not get infatuated with the first cowboy who comes along.

As if he sensed her curiosity, the enigmatic stranger turned his attention toward her. The intensity of his stare invaded her comfort zone as he coolly and completely assessed her with a visual review of her body that left her feeling undressed. The hair on her arms stood erect. She rubbed them as if removing a chill. The physical reaction was her own intuitive warning system and experience had taught her to listen to her body. She understood all too well about arrogant, possessive men.  Her controlling ex-boyfriend was a moral zero and the most deceptive man she’d ever met. The image of him sent shivers skidding down her spine but she quickly thrust the memories aside.  He’s out of my life and nowhere near here.

Ariel slid the dog tags back and forth on the chain she wore around her neck….

The most frequent question I’m asked is, “Where did you get the inspiration for the book/series?”

My series, The Forever Series, originated from a trip I took with my daughter through the rolling green hills of the Ocala, Florida horse country. She was in school, studying to be an equine veterinarian, and was doing farm calls. We visited a number of stunning properties surrounded by lush green pastures and delineated with Kentucky-style white picket fences. The barns were all immaculate and resembled a movie set. I was struck by the romance of the setting.

The second most frequent question I’m asked is, “Why and/or how did you decide to become a writer?”

Since I was three years old I’ve delighted in entertaining people, admittedly most of whom were related to me.  It started when I danced at the Raleigh Little Theater and sugar plum fairied my way across the stage.  From there, my creative energy blossomed into composing songs and poems. After sharing one particularly romantic poem with a friend, she asked me if I had ever read a romance novel. A what? You mean like a Fabio on the cover book? That’s when she handed me a Nora Roberts paperback. I was hooked and set out on a journey to write my own romance novel.

Forever in Ocala is a contemporary romance set in the small town of Ocala, Florida where thoroughbred horses and rolling green hills dot the landscape. The story has all my favorite elements; horses, SEALs and last but not least a heroic equine veterinarian.

Although I like to think I have a vivid imagination, the SEAL in my book is based on a true life hero and his secret missions in distant lands. Because of our close friendship, he’s allowed me a porthole into the cloistered, private world of the Navy SEAL teams.  He introduced me to other SEALS and arranged a tour of the Coronado SEAL base where I was privileged to converse with guys currently operating in the most dangerous places on earth, risking their lives every day for our freedom.

I offer you, the reader, a realistic portrayal of men who transfer their alpha tendencies and athletic prowess into serving a noble cause.

The heroine, Ariel Armstrong and my favorite character in the book exists in my imagination and in real life as my daughter who chose the physically demanding profession of equine medicine which is undeniable harder and less lucrative than human medicine but rewarding beyond measure.  Yes, that was me in my pajamas riding along on an emergency call at 2 A.M. to keep her company down the pitch- black, country roads of Ocala, Florida.

A final note:

My hope is you’ll be entertained by my characters and their stories and enjoy turning the pages or sliding your finger across the screen for many years to come.
