What it’s about

“Life imitates art far more than art imitates Life.” ― Oscar Wilde
Author Nicola Royse dreamed of Scottish Highlanders as a teen then wrote about them as an adult. Always looking but never finding her own White Knight, she still held out hope that he would one day ride up on his trusty steed. He rode up all right, on a silver Harley with heat in his eyes and a detective’s badge on his hip while she and her friends plotted her first contemporary romantic suspense. Of course, life couldn’t’ imitate art without a killer on the loose, one that had Nicola and her friends in his sights.
Detective Dallas Vaughn dedicated his life to catching killers. Then one day he bumped into the girl-next-door, and all that changed. Now he’s her White Knight fighting against a Dark Prince—one who would love to see her dead.

Dorsey’s Review

4.5 Alpha Stars!!
Nicola Grace Royce is an historical romance writer who is inspired to write a contemporary romantic/suspense novel after seeing a very handsome police detective investigating a homicide on the evening news.
When she literally runs into the man who inspired her hero, it’s hilarious. Det. Dallas Vaughn is all (ALPHA) male and so, so sexy!! He’s a workaholic who’s completely dedicated to his job, but that’s about to change when he finds himself face to face with Nicola. After several chance encounters, he has a need to protect her along with the overwhelming need stake his claim. Nicola doesn’t trust easily and has a hard time believing that this beautiful man is really as interested in her as he claims to be. Bottom line…she is afraid of turning over her heart and having it shattered.

“Give it to me and I promise I’ll guard it with my fuckin’ soul. I swear, I’ll fight the demons back and keep you safe.”

Dallas quickly becomes the kind of hero that Nicola has always dreamed about, but instead of a steed he rides a Harley, wears jeans (perfectly) instead of a kilt, and carries a gun and badge rather than a sword.

“What I want,” he told me firmly as he swept his thumbs across my cheek, “is to own that part of you that you’ve never given away, that part that can only be mine.”

Dallas has a killer to catch, especially now as it seems the “Shallow Grave Killer” has set his sights on Nicola and her group of BFF’s.We are aslo introduced to FBI Agent Parker in this book, I really loved his character and hope he gets a book too!

Great secondary characters, especially her overbearing and over protective twin brothers Bo and Finn (she and her brothers are actually triplets).

“Bo!” Finn shouted from behind me, interrupting my private talk with Simi and Snape, “Nicola’s talking to her cats again.”
“What’s she saying this time?” Bo hollered back.
“Apparently, she thinks she’s gonna get drunk and then get laid.”
“Excellent, I could use a good work out. I haven’t beaten the shit out of a guy in years,” he answered.

As with all her other books, we get the all important epilogue, and this author writes a great epilogues!!
I have come to really, really like C.P. Smith, she delivers an entertaining read with a fantastic mix of steamy sex, humor, and suspense. This author has become an auto buy for me, and much like Kristen Ashley her heroes…which everyone knows I love, they are very ALPHA, SEXY, romantic, and fun. I highly recommend all C.P. Smith’s books!!
