Daywalker Brynne Kirkland survived a hellish upbringing as a product of a madman’s lab. Tough, driven, and devoted to her work in law enforcement, Brynne has never dared to risk opening her heart to anyone—least of all a handsome immortal from a world on the verge of war against hers.

Atlantean warrior Zael left the intrigue of his realm several lifetimes ago, along with the battles he fought as one of the queen’s legion. As a free-spirited loner walking the fringe of two worlds—that of his secretive and powerful people, and the outside world belonging to mankind and the Breed—it was never his intention to return to combat and bloodshed. Nor had he imagined that he might ever be tempted into anything stronger than desire . . . until he meets Brynne.

Thrust together as allies of the Order in the fight against a diabolical enemy, Zael and Brynne embark on a mission that will ultimately force them to decide between duty to their people, and a passion that defies all bounds.

Dorsey’s Review

4 Female Gen One Stars!!

Brynne Kirkland is a JUSTIS agent, and Zael, who we met and found out in the last book is (Rio’s mate) Dylan’s father, is an Atlantean Warrior. Brynne and Zeal have a strong mutual attraction but Brynne is hiding a secret that prevents her from acting on that powerful attraction. Brynne is a Gen One Breed female, a day walker, friend to The Order, and half-sister to Tavia Chase who is the breedmate to The Order’s Sterling “Harvard” Chase.

Brynne is hiding the nightmarish secret of her upbringing along with the horrific abuse she suffered from Dragos, but she has a much darker secret that she feels she must protect. Dragos depravity was particularly horrific towards Brynne and her story broke my heart.

When The Order’s enemy, Opus Nostrum, makes aggressive attacks on the JUSTIS headquarters in London and other attacks around the world, it unsettles the delicate truce between the immortals and mortals. The Order finds themselves in a potentially dangerous situation and it’s all hands on deck. I LOVED seeing Lucian, Chase, and Dante along with some of the other original warriors back doing what they do best, fighting an enemy and kicking ass!!

This is where Brynne’s secret is exposed to Zael, and to say he was a bit put off, is putting it mildly. However, he took care of her and whisked her away from danger and more importantly, exposure. This is also where we get her backstory when she confides in Zael and tells him everything….I have to say Zael captured my heart the way he took care of her, listened to her, and let her know that regardless of everything that the connection he feels for her is still there and now stronger than ever.

There were a couple of new characters introduced and I’m excited to see where Lara Adrian takes us next. I’m hoping one of her novellas is for Trygg, the Warrior under Lazaro’s order.  He is described as “massive behemoth with a forbidding demeanor, an intimidating scowling male with a shaved head and glyph-covered arms.” I have a feeling he and the exiled Atlantean female Tamisia will have a connection…hopefully….maybe? There is also the possibility of a connection between Rafe (Dante & Tess’ son) and a breedmate he rescued….we shall see.

Naturally, there is much more going on with Opus, the Atlantean Queen of the Atlantean Colony, The Order and human race. I don’t want to give anything away so you’ll have to read it for yourself and once again Lara Adrian does not disappoint!!
