Dreams and reality collide—with potentially deadly consequences—in this stunning novella from New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard, available for the first time as a standalone ebook at an unbeatable price!
House painter Thea Marlow hasn’t been sleeping very well. Her nights are plagued by dreams, the setting by the water and the mysterious man who appears in them always the same. But the outcome of the dream changes nightly: sometimes the man loves her...and sometimes he kills her. Desperate for some much needed relaxation, Thea travels to her family’s remote country lake house. Imagine her surprise when a knock at the door reveals the man from her dreams...who happens to have just rented the house next door.
So will he love her—or will he kill her?
This is a reissue of an older Linda Howard story, which I realized after the first few pages of reading. I read this a few years ago in the Everlasting Love, an anthology book. I’m a HUGE fan of Linda Howard’s romantic suspense books and while I enjoyed this one, I didn’t love it.
Thea Marlow is having sensual dreams of a mysterious man, they are actually haunting her dreams. The dreams are very real and can bring her ecstasy or fear. As the dreams progress, she attempts to escape the dreams by going to her family’s lake cabin. Her peaceful getaway is broken when she meets her neighbor…it’s her dream lover.
It’s sort of paranormal meets romance suspense. Not her best by a long shot but not horrible either.
Linda Howard is legendary in the romance genre and has penned many timeless classics. Her Mackenzie family series, and many of her romantic suspense novels have set the bar high for all other authors. She’s an enigma and many of her early works remain some of my go-to books that I still reach for even after all these years!
Lake of Dreams is a re-print from many years ago. Although it does show it’s age, Howard’s trademark talent is on full display. I personally am not a fan of reincarnation stories, so take that in mind when considering my rating.
Thea Marlow is being plagued by dreams of a mysterious man. Some of her dreams end in passion and others in blood and death. When her mystery man from her dreams shows up as her new neighbor, she is unsure of what it will mean for her.
This is a short read, and could easily be read in one sitting. It has paranormal elements and is quick to wrap things up. While this was an enjoyable read, it’s not nearly the quality of some of her other work, and therefore, gets 3 stars from me.
