She took a dare and fell in love. Truth would have been the smarter choice.

After years of living under her father’s thumb, Emmeline is ready to break free. She’s abandoned her life as a New York socialite to follow her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher in a small, wholesome town. Seeing the man that nearly broke her was absolutely not what she had hoped to find in Prescott, Montana.

Nick hasn’t seen his Emmy in nine years, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten a thing about the woman he loves. After just one blissful night as man and wife, he gave her up, sacrificing his own happiness to keep her safe—far away from him. But the moment she walks back into his lonely life is the moment he decides never to let her go again. He won’t waste his second chance. All he has to do is win back Emmeline’s heart, keep her safe from the shadows in his past and prove to her that taking a wager on him is a sure bet.

3.5 “I Dare You” Stars!

New York Heiress, socialite, and recent college grad Emmeline Austin wants her last night in Las Vegas filled with adventure when her friends decide to desert her for some random guys including, Nick Slater, who instantly brings out her wild side. His favorite line to loosen Emmy up is “I dare you”, and naturally she has to take the challenge! Next thing you know they are married and spend one glorious night together. Emmy wakes alone and doesn’t see him again until 9 years later when she moves to Montana to follow her dream of being a kindergarten teacher….oh, yeah, and she and Nick are still married since the PI she hired was never able to locate Nick to serve divorce papers.

Nick is now the fire chief of the small Montana town that Emmy has moved to when she and Nick come face to face at a Halloween party at the home of one of her students. Emmy flees the party but, Nick doesn’t let her get too far……Nick is persistent and he wants another chance. But, Emmy has a boyfriend (who resides in NY) and doesn’t want to let Nick back in (even though she can’t forget about the night she gave her heart to a stranger). Eventually, she hesitantly agrees to give him a chance to explain by agreeing to “Five dates. One week.” Emmy does all she can to avoid falling for him again and attempts to guard her heart… which is kind of hard to do when Nick is sweet, protective, and totally swoon-worthy.

I must say, I had a hard time with this one. I just didn’t connect to the hero and heroine, the insta-love, and I was put off by Nick continually walking away from Emmy. I started and stopped a couple of times and finally set it aside. I happened to see it was available in audio and me being the audiobook junkie I am, I decided to give it a try. I did enjoy the audiobook and I’m now looking forward to reading book 3, The Lucky Heart.
