Merryn Mantel and Geoffrey de Montfort have loved each other since childhood. Once betrothed, Geoffrey leaves for the wars in France for five long years. Upon his return, the two marry and spend one blissful night consummating their love and making plans for their future.

But her new husband vanishes the next day without a trace. Merryn grieves for almost seven years—and then Geoffrey returns to her—changed from the boy and man she knew and worshipped. This stranger refuses to reveal where he has been and why he stayed away for so long.

Will her husband's silence create a rift too large to heal, or can Merryn and Geoffrey recapture the love they once shared?

Steffi’s Review

Lauren Linwood whisks readers away to another place and time in this historical romance with a love that is strong enough to overcome anything.

Merryn and Geoffrey have been close since childhood, their friendship growing into love when they matured into adults. After years at war with France, Geoffrey is finally free to return to his betrothed and marry the love of his life. No one could have anticipated that they would only get to spend one night together as a married couple when Geoffrey disappears all of a sudden. Seven years later, Geoffrey returns but, unwilling to share the reason for his long absence, Merryn hardly recognizes her beloved husband anymore. Trust issues, Geoffrey’s unwillingness to open up to Merryn and an imminent visit from the king challenge the strong bond they once shared.

Only knowing Lauren Linwood from her superb romantic suspense novels, I was excited to accompany her on a journey back in time. As with previous books, Lauren Linwood creates a strong and intriguing cast of protagonists that goes beyond the hero and heroine. I fell in love with the couple’s children and am thrilled that the next book in the Knights Of Valor series will feature Geoffrey’s cousin who is in dire need of love from a good woman.

Occasionally I became quite frustrated with Geoffrey. As the reader, we know what happened to him and where he spent those 7 years, getting a glimpse into the nightmare he lived through. At the same time, his return is not as exuberant as one would think and I sympathized with Merryn as she tried to save her marriage and recapture a love that she thought long lost. I wish Geoffrey could have been stronger for her but Merryn withstands anything life throws at her.

If you enjoy destined love stories with a couple whose bond is unique but their road to happiness not an easy one, then you’ll love WORD OF HONOR. Lauren Linwood captures the atmosphere of a time long past in this entertaining historical romance beautifully.

About Lauren Linwood

As a child, Lauren Linwood gathered her neighborhood friends together and made up stories for them to act out, her first venture into creating memorable characters. Following her passion for history and love of learning, she became a teacher—who escaped into writing on the side to maintain her sanity in a sea of teenage hormones.

Lauren’s historical novels focus on two of her favorite eras—medieval times and the American Old West. History is the backdrop that places her characters in extraordinary circumstances, where their intense desire for one another grows into the treasured gift of love. In her romantic suspense novels, contemporary heroes and heroines unite to defeat a strong antagonist and discover a deep, abiding love during their journey.

Lauren, a native Texan, lives in a Dallas suburb with her family. An avid reader, moviegoer, and sports fan, she manages stress by alternating yoga with daily walks. She is thinking about starting a support group for MasterChef addicts—as soon as she finishes her next piece of dark chocolate.
