Why I love the Wanted Men series
Hey everyone, Dorsey here and I wanted to tell you a little bit about why I find the Wanted Men series so appealing.
I first discovered Nancy Haviland’s Wanted Men series when I request an ARC of her debut book A Love of Vengeance. I don’t do dark/gritty reads, I normally stay away from Mafia and MC books but the description intrigued me enough to request a copy, and I am so happy I did!!
The books in the Wanted Men series are NOT just about sex, violence, torture, abuse, and cruelty, there’s an allusion to some of those things happening but it’s not in your face, front and center. The author weaves an intriguing story around the characters that humanizes them and doesn’t just portray them as ruthless killers.
Nancy’s characters are primarily Russian and Italian Mafia, they are beautiful, tattooed, lethal, and yet at the same time loving, tender, they have a sense of humor, and most importantly they are fiercely protective and loyal to each other and those they consider their own. I’m in no way saying that that her Mafia characters are furry cuddly kittens, they’re NOT, they will do whatever is necessary to protect their own and if it means being brutal….so be it.
I not only fell for the main two characters in each of the books but all the intriguing secondary characters as well, which had me anticipating the subsequent releases and they have been every bit as good as the first!
Nancy Haviland is a talented writer who knows her way around a good plot. The stories connect from one book to the next, so you’ll be able to catch up with the characters you’ve come to love from the previous books, and get the happily ever after for the featured couple. Nancy is also fan friendly, generous and humble. So if you’re looking for a series to sink your teeth into, look no further, Wanted Men is the way to go!
And now a little about what else you’ll find in today’s spotlight. Writing on the dark side!
I’m drawn to the dark hero (or anti-hero, to some) because they allow me to take more liberties than I could if I wrote about the traditional alpha male in a position of power. The organized crime element, be it an MC, an Italian-American mafia family, or a Russian Bratva, lets me strip away the niceties of social acceptability to make way for the grittier, untamed male who isn’t afraid to obliterate lines normal men wouldn’t even think to cross in many situations. A brotherhood made strong by the honor, loyalty, and respect the men have for each other is such an attractive thing to me. And when that extends to the women who eventually capture their hearts, well, I can only speak for myself when I say a possessive alpha male willing to go to any lengths to protect and shelter his female is a story I’ll never tire of reading. 🙂
Excerpt from Ultimate Vengeance
“You ended your relationship with her, and that’s on you. If she chose to move on, that’s something you’re going to have to accept. She and Justin Sheppard are two single people dating, and that has nothing to do with you. If you want to try to win her back, I’m behind you, but you will not punish her for living the life you left her to live.”
Reason it was.
“So basically,’ Maks said as he shoved his phone into his pocket. “You’re telling him he can show up in the morning and wave at her through the f*cking window.” He came in closer and gave Vasily a questioning look. “Do you have any idea how he must be feel—? Hang on a second.” He straightened and looked at Alek. “How the f*ck are you so calm right now?”
Alek rattled the change in his pockets and shrugged. He kept his shoulders up as the chill of the night began to register. How could he explain that the urgency had left him? The panic he’d been living with for over a year had fled the moment he’d looked into Sacha’s eyes. He’d been afraid he was going to have to live without her. That fear was gone. The only thing giving him trouble now was Sheppard and the revulsion Alek had seen in Sacha’s eyes when she’d looked at him.
“I’m going to see her tomorrow.” His lip pulled up at the corner, and he shrugged again, feeling a high that had nothing to do with the brandy he’d imbibed earlier. “If I learn she and Sheppard aren’t buddies, I’ll rage.” He brought a hand up when his uncle opened his mouth. “But I’ll try not to fight for her by killing the guy. Rather, I’ll fight for her by engaging in the dirtiest f*cking battle any of you has ever seen. A legit battle. In the end, satisfaction will come when the attorney is forced to stand there and watch Sacha wrap that curvy body around me because I’ve proven she’s mine.” He slapped his hands on his uncle’s shoulders and felt optimism for the first time since learning his cousin’s family had been taken by the Baikovs, which was the moment Alek’s downslide had begun. “But with any luck, things will go my way and it won’t come to that.”
